Used as a location for thefamous movie "Zorba the Greek" from 1964, with Anthony Quinn in the famous role, the Hotel Contessa is located just up from the western part of the old harbour. The narrow, venetian alley Theofanous outside the Contessa is where Alexis Zorba stumbles out after slushing champagne with a lady of the night. He ends up spending a few carnal nights in the hotel Contessa.
